There are FOUR Organic Gardens of Project AngelFaces:
- New Vista Ranch
- Whitney Recreation and Senior Center
- CSN Cheyenne
- UNLV Campus Community Garden (opening Spring 2014!!)
- Old Henderson Garden Building and Materials Storage Facility.
New Vista Ranch
The premier program teaches skills and provides job training to a collective of high-functioning intellectually challenged individuals through partnership with New Vista Community, a local non-profit that serves the needs for our intellectually challenged fellow citizens to live life to the fullest. The Organic Garden... at The Ranch increases quality of life for this often stigmatized community, by providing friendship, socialization, and job skills training in organic gardening . The program will soon provide opportunities to earn income for participating residents of New Vista Ranch.
Whitney Recreation and Senior Center
Project AngelFaces then created programming for the Organic Garden at Whitney Recreation and Senior Center. This newly constructed garden, a 6 year dream in the making, supports our second original program, Garden Club: playful discovery of healthful nutrition for at-risk youth ages 6-12, 13-16, 17-19, and 20-22. At Garden Club Meetings, at-risk youth learn about nutrition and organic gardening, socialization skills, and non-violent conflict resolution through learning with locally grown fruits and vegetables, and working in their organic garden. This program hopes to reduce patterns of violence and disease for poverty stricken, at-risk children.
CSN Cheyenne Campus
The next garden we built is located on the Cheyenne Campus of the College of Southern Nevada. This program works to support low-income students by providing learning, leadership, community building, and scholarship opportunities to all student groups. In this way, we grow the tolerance and community unity on our Community College Campuses by providing interesting and fun environments for students from diverse backgrounds to come together in support of a common goal: learning how to build a garden, grow, prepare, and eat our own organic food.
UNLV Campus Community
We are currently in the planning stage for our collaboration with UNLV to build the UNLV Campus Community Garden. Look towards Fall 2013 for information on how to Get Involved in this exciting new garden program.
Old Henderson at Jesus Triumphant Christian Complex
Lastly, and most importantly, we have the generous support of Jesus Triumphant Christian Church Complex to store our materials, have container-building events, and other events to support the efforts of Project AngelFaces. Through their incredible support, Project AngelFaces has been able to expand our programs and build more and more gardens every year. We could not grow so fruitfully without their patience and generosity. To the Reverends Mr. and Mrs. Uwe and Sharon Proehl, we extend our most humble and heartfelt gratitude.
